It’s been a while. My last real update was back in November, and I owe you an explanation for the silence since.
That same month, I started a new job, and ramping up on that took a lot of my time and energy early on. Then in January, my mother was admitted to the hospital following complications from a long illness, and she passed away in March. The months since have been taken up with everything that follows: funeral arrangements, family, just getting through it. I’m not going to dwell on it here, but I wanted you to know why things went quiet, rather than just picking back up like nothing happened. I appreciate you sticking around.
I’m back at my desk now, and genuinely glad to be here.
(Currently on repeat while writing this: "Heavy Is The Crown" from the Arcane season 2 score. I watched and loved season 1 and the soundtrack has basically become my writing background music since.)
A New Home for This Newsletter
Starting with this very issue, I’m moving this newsletter off Substack and to a more traditional email format. Same me, same content, just a different pipe getting it to your inbox.
If you want to make sure this lands in your inbox (and not your spam folder), it might be worth double-checking your email whitelist settings: https://ericpcaillibot.com/email-whitelist-instructions/
I’m also working with Claude to help build out my newsletter process behind the scenes, so hopefully that means more consistency from here on out.
Picking the Story Back Up
Before everything happened, I was deep in prep for the Kickstarter launch of my World of Kiynan TTRPG books. That campaign is still happening, but everything that’s gone on these past several months means I need to rethink my timing and strategy for it. More info on that in future updates once I’ve worked it out.
Book 4 of The Kiynan Chronicles is still very much on my mind too, I’ve got threads I’ve been sitting on for a while now (Edvard, Varice, the growing tension between magic and Spire’s technology, if any of that rings a bell, you’ve been paying attention). That said, I want to get the TTRPG books finalized first before diving back into it.
And, because apparently I don’t know how to do one thing at a time, I’m also starting to sketch out a brand new epic fantasy series. Nothing I can share yet, but I wanted you to know it’s coming.
What are you most looking forward to, the Kickstarter, Book 4, or the new series? Hit reply and let me know; it actually helps me figure out where to point my energy first.
Thanks for being here, and for your patience. More soon, I mean it this time.
